In 1974, it was the Italian Dr Ficher who invented the first form of liposuction. In fact, they both create a motorized suction cannula equipped with a rotating blade placed directly behind the orifice of the cannula and connected to a suction.
Over the years, the method has evolved to give us access to current facial liposuction technique.
What is liposuction?
First of all, liposuction is known by another name: facial liposuction . Facial liposuction or liposuction is a type of cosmetic surgery aimed at people who have double chins, experience loss of skin tenacity on the neck and jowls.
This surgery is an invention which allows you to find an oval and aesthetic face thanks to the removal of fat and the retraction of the skin.
Some patients consider that their double chin is too conspicuous. It is in these cases that liposuction comes into play because its objective is to remove the excess fat that these patients may have and thus allow their skin to retract naturally.
If you have drooping jowls or a loss of tenacity of the cervical skin, liposuction results in retraction of the skin thanks to the fat removed.
Why do facial liposuction?
The face is the first thing we see when we meet someone and the body comes second since it is hidden by clothing. This is the reason why, when we perform facial liposuction, we refine our silhouette by default.
The thinner your face is, the younger and slimmer you will look, especially if you also have liposuction on your neck. Having a thin face and neck can affect the way a person looks.
Unlike other liposuction, notably that of the buttocks, hips or thighs, facial liposuction is performed equally on both men and women.
Man, woman, liposuction for different purposes
Men practice liposuction partly because of the appearance of a double chin in them and therefore excess fat in their neck, while women mainly suffer from sagging skin. They end up with sagging cheeks and neck skin.
So thanks to facial liposuction, their cheeks can deepen by making their cheekbones more prominent, reduce the fat located under their jaws and therefore allow them to have a more oval face.
How does a facial liposuction session take place?
A facial liposuction session lasts between 1 hour and 2 hours. It is practiced in 2 ways:
- under general anesthesia , if the patient is too nervous or if the surgeon plans to do a facelift.
- under local anesthesia with or without sedation.
Then, the surgeon makes 2 or 3 3 mm incisions , just below the earlobe and below the chin. The scars are then almost invisible.
Then, the surgeon injects a mixture composed of an anesthetic (lidocaine), an adrenaline vasoconstrictor and a physiological serum.
Finally, he puts in very fine cannulas of approximately 3 mm of foam which are connected to a suction system, and makes a back and forth movement which must be precise and regular.
Some doctors perform lymphatic massage on their patients when liposuction is completed. After the lymphatic massage, the surgeon finishes by applying a compression bandage then a “press lift” which the patient must keep on for 3 to 4 weeks.
What happens after the operation?
After facial liposuction, patients experience some side effects such as:
- fatigue, inevitably after general or local anesthesia, the patient is tired,
- bruising, which is caused by the surgeon's movements under the skin,
- edema, which is a common symptom of surgeries,
- pain which can generally be calmed with paracetamol.
It is after 3 months that you can consider judging your operation and only after 12 that you can see the final result.
Obviously, throughout these months, you will benefit from follow-up with your surgeon in case there are any complications later.
How much does liposuction cost?
Cosmetic surgery represents an investment in our appearance and for the risks it incurs, it comes at a high price.
If you are interested in facial liposuction, you should count between 2000 and 3500 euros. The price varies depending on the areas treated and the volume of fat to be vacuumed. Of course, in case of associated operation, the price increases considerably.
Before/after facial liposuction
With all this information, you should be interested in the effectiveness of this surgical practice. This is why we have prepared some before/afters for you.
First, we have this before and after of facial liposuction.
At first glance, we can notice the difference between the 2 images. This lady had liposuction on her neck and had her double chin removed. Thanks to this, she got a much thinner face than before. In addition, the operation slimmed her down and made her look younger.
Then we have this before and after of another woman who underwent liposuction on her face.
The result is even more obvious here. With the operation, this woman lost her double chin and thanks to the removal of fat, her skin shrank and seemed to have regained its elasticity. So, like the other woman, she became younger.
Now you know more about liposuction, what it is used for, how it is performed and how much it costs.
